Cambridge International AS & A Level Biology (9700) is a nineteen-topic course that runs from cell structure to genetic technology and is examined in five papers. The first eleven topics make up AS Level. The full A Level adds topics 12 to 19, plus Papers 4 and 5. Students normally arrive from IGCSE or O Level Biology (or Co-ordinated Science) and want to go deeper into the subject. We teach it online, one to one, to students across Saudi Arabia.

Five papers, combined into three routes.
Each lesson is one to one and shaped by the student's route: AS alone, staged A Level or full A Level. First we test topics 1 to 11, since Paper 4 assumes them, and then follow the order in which the student's school covers the syllabus. Set work combines multiple-choice, structured and data-based questions. Our feedback targets exact biological vocabulary, reading graphs and tables accurately, answering the question that was actually asked, and command words such as describe, explain and suggest.
Timed practice follows the real papers, from the 1 hour 15 minute Papers 1, 2 and 5 up to the 2 hour Paper 4. For Paper 5, students rehearse planning an investigation, handling data and evaluating results on paper.

Paper 3 is a timetabled practical test with light microscope work, 2 hours long and worth 40 marks, sat in a school lab. Paper 5 is a written paper of 1 hour 15 minutes and 30 marks that needs no lab, and tests planning, analysis and evaluation. TutorDock teaches online and does not run lab practicals, but our lessons build the table, graph, statistics and evaluation skills that both papers reward.
AS Level covers topics 1 to 11 in Papers 1, 2 and 3 and awards grades a to e. A Level covers all 19 topics in Papers 1 to 5 and awards A* to E. In the full A Level, Paper 4 is worth the most at 38.5%, then Paper 2 at 23%, Paper 1 at 15.5%, and Papers 3 and 5 at 11.5% each. AS Level splits 31% for Paper 1, 46% for Paper 2 and 23% for Paper 3. Over the whole qualification, 40% of marks go to knowledge, 40% to handling and applying information, and 20% to experimental skills.
