Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Physics (9PH0) is a thirteen-topic course, from working as a physicist and mechanics through to oscillations, examined in three written papers. Practical work is reported separately on the certificate as the Science Practical Endorsement. The course was first taught in 2015 and first certificated in 2017. Pearson says students who benefit most are likely to hold a Level 2 qualification such as GCSE Physics or Additional Science. We teach it online, one to one, to students across Saudi Arabia.
Pearson lets schools teach the course concept-led (laws and models first) or with the Salters Horners context-led approach, and the exam papers are the same either way. We follow whichever order your school uses. Pearson supplies a formulae sheet and a data sheet in every exam, so we focus on choosing the right equation for a problem rather than memorising lists.
Paper 3 is worth 40% of the grade and may draw on any topic, including questions on experimental methods and the 16 core practicals. Students sit written papers only, and the practicals happen at school. We teach the written side: planning, graphs, significant figures, uncertainties and judging a method.

Three written papers, with practical work reported separately.
Pearson assesses 9PH0 through three written papers. May/June is the only availability listed, and all assessment is taken in a single year.
Paper 1 draws on topics 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8, and Paper 2 on topics 1, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Paper 3 may draw on any topic and includes synoptic questions that join two or more of them. Topics 1 to 5 are the part Pearson lists for the Advanced Subsidiary subset, and the later topics build on them.
Questions range from short answers and calculations to extended writing, and Papers 1 and 2 may also include multiple-choice. At least 40% of the marks across the three papers test mathematics at Level 2 or above.
Practical work is compulsory but it is not an exam. The Science Practical Endorsement (9PH0/04) is marked by the school’s teachers against Pearson’s Common Practical Assessment Criteria, needs at least 12 practical activities, and does not count towards the A* to E grade. Pearson lists 16 core practicals, and some Paper 3 questions are drawn from them. TutorDock teaches online and does not run lab practicals, so students do these in their school lab. What we cover is the written side: reading results, plotting graphs, handling uncertainties and evaluating a method.
If your child is at the stage before A Level, see our Edexcel IGCSE Physics (4PH1) page. Parents searching from the Kingdom can also visit our A Level Physics tutor in Saudi Arabia page. Pearson also publishes a separate International Advanced Level in Physics with its own specification, so check which of the two your school enters.
Each lesson is one to one and follows the order your school teaches the course. First we check topics 1 to 5, which the later topics build on, and then work through the rest at the pace the student needs. Book a free trial class and tell us your hardest topic.
Set work mixes calculations, graph questions and extended-writing answers. Our feedback targets units, significant figures, showing every step of a calculation, and command words such as describe, explain and evaluate, and each mistake is explained.
Timed practice follows the real papers, from the 1 hour 45 minute Papers 1 and 2 up to the 2 hour 30 minute Paper 3. Because Paper 3 is worth 40% and mixes topics, it gets special attention.
All 13 topics in Pearson's Edexcel A Level Physics (9PH0) specification are covered here, from Topic 1, Working as a Physicist, to Topic 13, Oscillations.

Edexcel A Level Physics (9PH0) is Pearson’s Level 3 Advanced GCE in Physics. It has thirteen topics, three externally examined papers taken in May/June of a single year, and a separate Science Practical Endorsement reported on the certificate.
The correct official code is 9PH0 with a zero, not the letter O. Pearson lists the qualification as Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Physics (9PH0).
It is Pearson’s practical assessment for 9PH0 (code 9PH0/04). Teachers assess it against Pearson’s Common Practical Assessment Criteria, it needs at least 12 practical activities, and it is reported separately without changing the A* to E grade. TutorDock teaches online and does not run lab practicals, so students complete them in their school lab. In our lessons we cover the written side: the 16 core practicals as exam questions, graphs, uncertainties and evaluating methods.
Yes. We offer one-to-one online tutoring for students across Saudi Arabia, with support for theory, calculations, revision, and exam preparation.
Three written papers decide the grade: Papers 1 and 2 carry 30% each (1 hour 45 minutes, 90 marks) and Paper 3 carries 40% (2 hours 30 minutes, 120 marks). The grade runs from A* to E on the total mark, and individual papers are not graded. Across the qualification, 31–33% of marks go to knowledge and understanding, 41–43% to applying it, and 25–27% to analysis, interpretation and evaluation.
