Pearson Edexcel Board
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry (4CH1) takes students from particles, atomic structure and bonding through moles, metals and acids to energetics, reaction rates, equilibria and organic chemistry. Pearson describes the assessment as untiered written examinations accessible to students of all abilities. The course is linear, so both papers are sat together in one exam series at the end, and results are reported on the 9 to 1 scale. Pearson intends it as a solid basis for moving on to Pearson Edexcel AS and A Level or equivalent courses.
Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry (4CH1) is an untiered qualification, so all students study the same syllabus and sit the same papers, with support adjusted to their level and target grade.
We teach the core content and the bold 'C' statements, which go deeper into some sub-topics and are assessed only in Paper 2C. Examples include bond energy calculations, dynamic equilibrium, electrolysis half-equations, and alcohols, carboxylic acids and esters.

Practical skills are tested in the written papers
The 4CH1 specification builds practical investigations into the chemistry content, and the experimental skills students develop through them are assessed in the two written papers. There is no separate practical exam. Experimental skills, together with the analysis and evaluation of data and methods (AO3), account for 19–21% of the qualification.
The practical investigations named in the specification are:
Students do this practical work at school. In our online lessons we go through the methods, help them identify independent, dependent and control variables, record and process results, plot and read graphs, and judge reliability, accuracy and validity, all of which can be tested in Paper 1C and Paper 2C.
Lessons work through the 4CH1 topics in order, with step-by-step mole and concentration calculations, balanced equations with state symbols, and clear dot-and-cross, structural and displayed formulae.
Practice sets use the four question types Pearson sets in both papers: multiple-choice, short-answer, calculation and extended open-response. Our feedback picks up unbalanced equations, missing units, weak explanations of trends and incomplete method descriptions.
Mock exams copy the real timings: 2 hours for the 110-mark Paper 1C and 1 hour 15 minutes for the 70-mark Paper 2C, the paper that adds the bold 'C' content. Scripts are checked against Pearson mark schemes, with extra work on calculations, practical-context questions and longer answers.
The 4CH1 specification is divided into four topics, from the principles of chemistry to organic chemistry:
Principles of Chemistry
Inorganic Chemistry
Physical & Organic Chemistry

It is Pearson's International GCSE (9–1) in Chemistry, code 4CH1. The content is split into principles of chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and organic chemistry, and it prepares students for AS and A Level chemistry or equivalent courses. Exams and all student work are in English only.
No. There is one route for everyone: the same content and the same two papers, written so that students of every ability can access the questions. Results are given as grades 9 to 1, and 9 is the top grade.
No. Pearson places practical investigations, such as chromatography, electrolysis, salt preparation and rates of reaction, inside the specification and tests the skills through written questions. Students carry out the practicals at school. We help them online with planning, variables, results tables, graphs and evaluating methods.
Yes. We offer one-to-one online tutoring for students across Saudi Arabia, with support for theory, calculations, revision, and exam preparation.
There are two papers, both set and marked by Pearson and both sat in the same series. Paper 1C (2 hours, 110 marks, 61.1%) tests only the content that is not in bold. Paper 2C (1 hour 15 minutes, 70 marks, 38.9%) can test everything, bold 'C' statements included. The 180 marks are added without scaling. Exams are held in June and November, and calculators are allowed.
