Edexcel Mathematics (9MA0) Tutor in Saudi Arabia
- About Edexcel Mathematics
What is Edexcel Mathematics (9MA0)?
Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Mathematics (9MA0) is a linear A Level taught since September 2017, with first certificates in 2018. Its content is ten Pure Mathematics topics, five Statistics topics and four Mechanics topics, examined in three written papers sat in one May/June series. There is no coursework. We tutor it online, one to one, for students across Saudi Arabia.
Pearson says students likely to benefit most already hold a Level 2 qualification such as a GCSE in Mathematics, though there are no formal prior learning requirements. We pace lessons around the student’s other subjects. Entry requirements differ by university, so check the grade your chosen course asks for.
Balanced A Level Structure
Papers 1 and 2 are both Pure Mathematics, and Paper 3 combines Statistics with Mechanics. Each paper is worth one third of the grade, and all Pure Mathematics is assumed knowledge in Paper 3, so we secure the pure skills first.
Strong University Preparation
Pearson lists progression to higher education, employment or further training, and the grade is what opens those doors. Marks are split about half for standard techniques, a quarter for reasoning and proof, and a quarter for problem solving and modelling, so we train all three.

Edexcel Mathematics (9MA0) Papers and Assessment
Three two-hour written papers, each worth one third of the grade.
All assessment is sat in the May/June series of a single year, and students must answer every question.
- Paper 1, Pure Mathematics 1 (9MA0/01): 2 hours, 100 marks, 33.33% of the qualification
- Paper 2, Pure Mathematics 2 (9MA0/02): 2 hours, 100 marks, 33.33% of the qualification
- Paper 3, Statistics and Mechanics (9MA0/03): 2 hours, 100 marks, 33.33% of the qualification
Papers 1 and 2 may contain questions on any of the ten Pure Mathematics topics. Paper 3 has a Statistics section and a Mechanics section, and all Pure Mathematics is assumed knowledge that can appear in parts of its questions. Three overarching themes run through every paper: mathematical argument, language and proof; mathematical problem solving; and mathematical modelling.
Calculators can be used in all three papers. Pearson requires an iterative function and the ability to compute summary statistics and probabilities from standard distributions, and bans calculators that do symbolic algebra, symbolic differentiation or integration, or connect to other machines or the internet. The booklet Mathematical Formulae and Statistical Tables is provided, but the formulae listed in Appendix 1 of the specification are not in it, so students must learn them.
Paper 3 assumes familiarity with Pearson’s large data set, which is Met Office weather data. Students do not take it into the exam, but questions can use its terminology and context, so we practise sampling, summary statistics, diagrams and correlation on it.
Students still on the International GCSE route can see our Edexcel Maths (4MA1) page, and families in the Kingdom can read our maths tutor in Saudi Arabia page. Pearson also publishes International A Level Mathematics, which is built from separate units rather than three papers, so ask your school whether it enters the UK A Level 9MA0 or the International A Level.
Our Approach to Teaching Edexcel Mathematics (9MA0)
Our teaching approach is designed to make Edexcel Mathematics easier to understand, more manageable, and more results-focused for students in Saudi Arabia.
One-to-One Online Tutoring
Every lesson is one to one and follows your school’s order. We usually start with Pure Mathematics, because it fills two papers and is assumed in Paper 3, then add Statistics and Mechanics at the student’s pace. Book a free trial class and name the topic you find hardest.
Assignments & Detailed Feedback
Set work covers proof, algebra, calculus, trigonometry, probability and mechanics questions in Pearson’s style. Feedback checks method, notation and setting out as well as answers, and shows when a calculator helps, with every mistake explained.
Mock Exams & Past Paper Practice
Past papers are timed to match the real ones: 2 hours and 100 marks for each of the three papers, which is about 1.2 minutes per mark. Paper 3 gets extra attention because it needs Statistics, Mechanics and Pure Mathematics together.
Topics Covered in Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics (9MA0)

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we provide online Edexcel Mathematics tutoring for students across Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar, and Dhahran.
The code is 9MA0, Pearson’s Level 3 Advanced GCE in Mathematics. Its three papers are coded 9MA0/01, 9MA0/02 and 9MA0/03. The separate AS qualification is coded 8MA0.
Three externally examined written papers, each 2 hours, 100 marks and worth 33.33% of the grade: Pure Mathematics 1, Pure Mathematics 2, and Statistics and Mechanics. All are sat in one May/June series. Pearson grades the total mark out of 300 from A* to E, never individual papers. About 48–52% of marks reward standard techniques, and 23–27% each reward reasoning and problem solving.
All 19 Pearson topics. Papers 1 and 2 cover ten Pure Mathematics topics, from proof and algebra to vectors. Paper 3 adds five Statistics topics, from sampling to hypothesis testing, and four Mechanics topics, from units to moments.
