What is Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)? Learn with Expert Online

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) develops students' understanding of the physical world through core principles, scientific investigation, problem-solving and practical skills. The syllabus covers six main areas, from motion, forces and energy to electricity, nuclear physics and space physics. Students also develop scientific skills that support progression to further study, including Cambridge International AS & A Level Physics.

Core Level Support

We support Core candidates preparing for Papers 1 and 3, together with either Paper 5 or Paper 6. Core candidates are eligible for grades C to G. Lessons focus on secure understanding of Core content, clear scientific explanations, calculation practice and confidence with structured questions.

Extended Level Support

We support Extended candidates preparing for Papers 2 and 4, together with either Paper 5 or Paper 6. Extended candidates are eligible for grades A* to G. Lessons cover Core and Supplement content, with emphasis on deeper problem-solving, calculations, data interpretation and higher-grade exam questions.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) Practical & Experimental Skills

Practical skills are assessed through Paper 5 or Paper 6.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics places strong emphasis on experimental skills and investigations. All candidates take one practical component: Paper 5 Practical Test or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical. Both assess the same experimental skills and contribute 20% of the qualification.

Students should be familiar with experimental contexts such as:

  • measuring physical quantities such as length, volume and force
  • measuring small distances and short intervals of time
  • determining derived quantities such as spring extension per unit load, resistance or acceleration
  • testing and identifying the relationship between two variables
  • comparing measured quantities such as angles of reflection
  • comparing derived quantities such as density
  • cooling and heating, including measurement of temperature
  • experiments using springs and balances
  • timing motion or oscillations
  • electric circuits and measurements of current and potential difference
  • optics experiments involving mirrors, lenses, prisms and glass or Perspex blocks
  • using simple apparatus in unfamiliar experimental situations

Students also practise identifying variables, selecting apparatus, recording measurements, presenting data, drawing graphs, identifying anomalies, evaluating experimental methods and suggesting improvements.

One-to-One Online Tutoring

Lessons are tailored to the Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 syllabus, with support for both Core and Extended students. We focus on conceptual understanding, accurate use of equations and units, scientific reasoning and identifying areas that need further practice.

Assignments & Detailed Feedback

Students practise multiple-choice, short-answer and structured questions alongside calculations, graphs, data interpretation and practical-based problems. Feedback focuses on accuracy, method, scientific terminology and applying physics to unfamiliar situations.

Mock Exams & Past Paper Practice

Exam preparation follows the 0625 assessment structure. Core students practise Papers 1 and 3, while Extended students practise Papers 2 and 4. Students also prepare for either the Paper 5 Practical Test or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical, depending on their examination route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) covers six main areas: Motion, forces and energy; Thermal physics; Waves; Electricity and magnetism; Nuclear physics; and Space physics. The qualification also places strong emphasis on practical and experimental skills.

Core candidates take Papers 1 and 3, plus either Paper 5 or Paper 6, and are eligible for grades C to G. Extended candidates take Papers 2 and 4, plus either Paper 5 or Paper 6, and are eligible for grades A* to G.

All candidates take three papers. The multiple-choice paper is 45 minutes and 40 marks, the theory paper is 1 hour 15 minutes and 80 marks, and the practical component is either Paper 5 or Paper 6, worth 40 marks and 20% of the qualification.

Paper 5 is a practical test in a laboratory. Paper 6 is a written Alternative to Practical, and candidates do not do experiments as part of the test. Both test the same experimental skills (AO3).

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 examinations are available in the June and November series, and also in the March series in India.
